What are dropper apps?

Dropper apps are seemingly harmless programs that act as delivery vehicles for malware. On their own, they might look like a normal app—like a flashlight, game, or utility—but once installed, they “drop” or download additional malicious payloads onto the device. This could be spyware, banking trojans, ransomware, or other threats. Droppers are often used to bypass app store security by hiding the real malware until after installation. They’re a key part of multi-stage attacks, especially on Android devices, and are designed to stay under the radar during initial scans or user review.
