Auto-renewal status comes first
Whether you can remove your payment information depends entirely on the auto-renewal status of your subscription.
- If auto-renewal is ON: you cannot delete your payment information yet.
- If auto-renewal is OFF: you can delete your payment information immediately. No other actions are required.
If you don’t see a delete (trash / garbage bin) icon under your payment method, auto-renewal is still active. See the screenshots below (click to enlarge).
Why can’t I delete my billing or payment information?
When auto-renewal is active, the delete option for payment information is hidden. This means there is no trash or garbage bin icon available under your payment method.
While auto-renewal is on, you can only edit your payment details. Full removal is not allowed because the payment method is still needed for future auto-renewals.
How to delete your payment information
If auto-renewal is already turned off, you can skip step 1 and delete your payment information right away.
- Turn off auto-renewal (unsubscribe)
Log in to your account and disable auto-renewal for the active subscription. Here is the full article about how to manage Norton auto-renewal. - Go to your payment or billing section
Once auto-renewal is off, the payment method is no longer required. - Delete the payment information
The trash / garbage bin icon will now appear under your payment details. Click it to remove the payment method.
