Did I just receive a phishing email?

Most of people have received an email warning them about some kind of a problem that requires them to log into their bank accounts.  To be clear, banks will never notify you of a problem through an unsolicited email or a text message. Therefore, you can be sure that email is a phishing attempt.

But if that message really looks legitimate and worrying, you can further check on it without risking anything.

  • Check the senders email address. In most cases those addresses do not look as from a bank. They look more as personal addresses. Please note that email address can be spoofed.
  • Check the link within the text of that email. DO NOT CLICK ON IT! Just hoover over and check the web address. If the link is legitimate, it MUST have bank’s URL in it.
