Error: “8504,101”

Error 8504,101 can relate to a failed install when upgrading the product to a newer version. Also, another security product can be the cause for this error.

STEP 1

UNINSTALL ANY NON-NORTON SECURITY PRODUCT

You can also read the program documentation or contact the program manufacturer for instructions to remove a non-Norton security product from your computer.

1. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.
2. Type in the following text, and then press Enter.

   appwiz.cpl

3. In the list of currently installed programs, select the non-Norton security product, and then click Uninstall or Remove.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions.
5. When the uninstall completes, restart the computer.If the problem persists, go to Step 2.

STEP 2

RUN THE NORTON REMOVE AND REINSTALL TOOL

If you have Norton Family installed, uninstall it before you run the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool.

1. Download the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool.On Windows XP computers, download the Windows XP compatible version of the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool. Save the file to the Windows desktop. On some browsers, the file is automatically saved to its default location.
2. To open the Downloads window in your browser, press the Ctrl + J key.
3. Double-click the NRnR icon.
4. Read the license agreement, and click Agree.
5. Click Advanced Options.
6. Click Remove Only.
7. Click Remove.
8. Click Restart Now.After the computer restarts, follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall the Norton product. If you have any issues reinstalling the Norton product, read Download Norton device security product on your device. Reinstall Norton Family if you have uninstalled it.
