Exploring The Norton AntiVirus Main Window

The Norton AntiVirus main window is the central security management window for Norton AntiVirus installed onto a user's computer. The main features are easily accessed from this one window. Users can also monitor the status of their system and performance from the main window as well. The main window includes three different areas of options and features.

Settings, Status And Performance

The first area of the main window allows you to view the overall system status in the System Status section. If any risks are detected, the user will be notified and the recommended action displayed at the bottom of the window. Besides the system status, the main window also informs about the Norton AntiVirus subscription status and shows how many days it has remained before the renewal.

Users can manage their Norton Account and customize their settings through the Account and Settings sections. Under Settings, users can view and change the settigns for AntiVirus and SONAR Exclusions, Computer Scan settings, Real Time Protection, Updates, and more. In the Performance section, users can view CPU and memory usage.

Get support for a Norton product or leave feedback by going to the Support and Feedback sections. The Feedback option may not be available in all versions of Norton AntiVirus.

Scanning, Live Update, and Advanced Options

Norton AntiVirus allows users to run three different types of scans in the Scan Now section: Computer Scan, Reputation Scan, and Facebook Wall Scan.
Three types of scans can be used to scan the computer itself: Quick Scan, Full System Scan, and Custom Scan. The same three scan options are also available for the Reputation scan. Finally, users can scan their Facebook walls for any malicious links to stay safe while being social. The FAcebook Wall Scan is powered by Norton Safe Web.

To get the latest updates to Norton AntiVirus and virus definitions manually, use the LiveUpdate section. These updates are necessary to keep the user and system as safe as possible from new threats. LiveUpdate is set to run automatically in order to keep the software up to date with the latest antivirus developments.

For more advanced options, see the Advanced section. Scan types we already described are available from here, and users can also view any quarantined files, and application ratings. Under Network Protection, Norton also allows users to see a Vulnerability Protection report, and to create and view a network security map which includes both wired and wireless networks a computer may be attached to.

Additional Features

The final area of the Norton AntiVirus main window is located at the bottom of the screen. Some of these features may not be available to some of the users of Norton AntiVirus. To stay abreast of where cybercrime happens most, check out the Activity Map section. By clicking onto the certain area of the world map, the software will start scrolling horizontally names of the cities accompanied with number of threats at that moment. Users can also view details on the types of crimes to help better protect themselves.

If users have Norton products installed on numerous devices, the Manage section allows the user to manage all devices in one place. First time users will have to download and install the Norton Management Agent. The complete download and installation process is automated, and it asks you to enter your Norton Account password in order to setup the network of your Norton protected devices. Another page on our website will explain more about Norton Management.

Users can also stay protected on the go with the Norton Mobile Security app for Android in the Mobile section. This is for those that use Android based devices.

The next section is Safe Web Lite. This section allows users to download Safe Web Lite. The purpose of the feature is to protect users while they use their online web browser for tasks such as shopping, searching and browsing. Using the feature allows users to check the safety status of websites before clicking them by using search engines such as Bing, Google and Yahoo. Users also have access to the Safe Web Lite Toolbar to make Internet surfing safer.

The final section is for users with a Norton Cloud Backup account which can access their online backup status from the Backup section. Users can also set up a new backup account in this section.
