In some other cases, we may need to remove Norton without reinstalling it.<\/p>\n<h2>Reinstalling Norton on PC and Mac Computers<\/h2>\n<p>Here we list steps about how to reinstall Norton on Windows and Mac computers.<\/p>\n<h3>Windows Based Computers<\/h3>\n<p>Reinstalling Norton 360, Norton AntiVirus or some other Norton software on a PC is a task that happens in three steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Uninstall Norton from your computer;<\/li>\n<li>Restart your computer;<\/li>\n<li>Install Norton back onto your computer.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The best and easiest way of reinstalling Norton on Windows based computers is to use <strong>Norton Remove and Reinstall tool<\/strong> for Windows.<br \/>\n<strong>Note:<\/strong> If you have Norton Family, you need to uninstall it before you run the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool.<\/p>\n<p>Steps for using Norton Remove and Reinstall tool for Windows:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Download the <a href=\"\/asrvc\/norton\/norton-html.php?m=faqNRT\"><strong>Norton Remove and Reinstall<\/strong><\/a> tool.\n<ul>\n<li>On Windows XP computers, download the Windows XP compatible version of the <a href=\"\/asrvc\/norton\/norton-html.php?m=faqNRT\">Norton Remove and Reinstall<\/a> tool.<\/li>\n<li>Save the file to the Windows desktop. On some browsers, the file is automatically saved to its default location.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>To open the Downloads window in your browser, press the <strong>Ctrl + J<\/strong> key.<\/li>\n<li>Double-click the <strong>NRnR<\/strong> icon.<\/li>\n<li>Read the license agreement, and click <strong>Agree<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Do one of the following depending on your situation:\n<ul>\n<li>To uninstall and reinstall your Norton device security product, click <strong>Remove &amp; Reinstall<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>To only remove your Norton device security product, click <strong>Advanced Options<\/strong> and then click <strong>Remove Only<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>You may only see the Remove option if you have received the Norton device security product from your service provider. You may need to contact your service provider to reinstall the product.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Continue<\/strong> or <strong>Remove<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Restart Now<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>After the computer restarts, your Norton device security product download starts automatically if you have selected the <strong>Remove &amp; Reinstall<\/strong> option.<\/li>\n<li>Reinstall Norton Family if you have uninstalled it.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Video showing how to use Norton Remove and Reinstall tool<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/XrtgdgyGMyU?si=4N_T9JrqaE7QbC04\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Mac Based Computers<\/h3>\n<p>Steps for reinstalling Norton on Mac computers are not as on Windows machines.<\/p>\n<p>To completely remove all Norton application files and references on your Mac, download and run the RemoveNortonMacFiles tool.<br \/>\n<strong>Note:<\/strong> Before running the RemoveNortonMacFiles tool, make sure that you have uninstalled the Norton device security product on your Mac.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 1: Uninstall Norton<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>On your Mac, click the Finder icon\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3011 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.antivirusaz.com\/faq\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/mac-finder-icon-30.png\" alt=\"Mac finder icon\" width=\"30\" height=\"30\" \/>\u00a0in the dock, and then click\u00a0<strong>Applications<\/strong>\u00a0in the left pane under Favorites section.<\/li>\n<li>Find the Norton application icon, and drag it to the\u00a0<strong>Trash<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0<strong>Bin<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click\u00a0<strong>Continue<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>When prompted, type your administrator account password, and then click\u00a0<strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>In the window that appears, click\u00a0<strong>Uninstall<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>When prompted, type your administrator account password, and then click\u00a0<strong>Install Helper<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click\u00a0<strong>Restart Now<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Step 2: Download and Run RemoveNortonMacFiles as an Administrator<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Download the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/buy-download.norton.com\/downloads\/mac\/tools\/RemoveNortonMacFiles.zip\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>RemoveNortonMacFiles.zip<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0file.<\/li>\n<li>Click the\u00a0<strong>Finder<\/strong>\u00a0icon\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3011 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.antivirusaz.com\/faq\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/mac-finder-icon-30.png\" alt=\"Mac finder icon\" width=\"30\" height=\"30\" \/>\u00a0in the Dock.<\/li>\n<li>In the\u00a0<strong>Finder<\/strong>\u00a0window, click\u00a0<strong>Downloads<\/strong>\u00a0in the left pane under\u00a0<strong>Favorites<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Do one of the following:\n<ul>\n<li>If you downloaded the file using Safari browser, open the\u00a0<strong>RemoveNortonMacFiles<\/strong>\u00a0folder.<\/li>\n<li>If you downloaded the file using the Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome browsers, double-click the\u00a0<strong>RemoveNortonMacFiles.zip<\/strong>\u00a0file to expand it, and then open the\u00a0<strong>RemoveNortonMacFiles<\/strong>\u00a0folder.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>In the\u00a0<strong>RemoveNortonMacFiles<\/strong>\u00a0folder, control-click the\u00a0<strong>RemoveNortonMacFiles.command<\/strong>\u00a0file, and then click\u00a0<strong>Open with<\/strong>\u00a0&gt;\u00a0<strong>Terminal (default)<\/strong>.\n<div class=\"note\">\n<p>To run this tool, you must be logged on with an Administrator account and a non-blank password.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>Do one of the following:\n<ul>\n<li>If you have not uninstalled Norton application on your macOS 10.15.x or later, a message appears in the\u00a0<strong>Terminal<\/strong>\u00a0window that prompts to drag and drop Norton from Applications folder to Trash. Go to step 7.<\/li>\n<li>If you have macOS 10.14.x and earlier, OR if you already uninstalled your Norton product on your macOS 10.15.x or later, go to step 13.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>In the\u00a0<strong>Terminal<\/strong>\u00a0window, press\u00a0<strong>return<\/strong>\u00a0to open the\u00a0<strong>Applications<\/strong>\u00a0folder in Finder.<\/li>\n<li>In the\u00a0<strong>Applications<\/strong>\u00a0folder, select the Norton application, and then drag and drop it to the\u00a0<strong>Trash<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>When you see a prompt, type your administrator account password, and then click\u00a0<strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>In the Norton installer window, click\u00a0<strong>Uninstall<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>If you see a prompt, type your administrator account password, and then click\u00a0<strong>Install Helper<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>When the uninstall finishes, run the\u00a0<strong>RemoveNortonMacFiles.command<\/strong>\u00a0file in\u00a0<strong>Terminal<\/strong>\u00a0again.For more information, refer to the instructions in step 5 above.<\/li>\n<li>In the\u00a0<strong>Terminal<\/strong>\u00a0window, type your administrator password, and then press\u00a0<strong>return<\/strong>.When you type your password, no characters appear.<\/li>\n<li>To remove all Norton files and folders, type\u00a0<strong>1<\/strong>.If you want to quit RemoveNortonMacFiles without removing any files, type\u00a0<strong>2<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Press\u00a0<strong>return<\/strong>.RemoveNortonMacFiles tool removes all of the Norton files.<\/li>\n<li>When the RemoveNortonMacFiles tool finishes removing the Norton files, in the\u00a0<strong>Terminal<\/strong>\u00a0window, type\u00a0<strong>y<\/strong>, and press\u00a0<strong>return<\/strong>\u00a0to restart your Mac.Before you press return, make sure that you save your work in other open applications.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sometimes Norton installations get corrupted.
